Self care

e-Book

I wrote this book to help others reach the best versions of themselves. For far too long, we have taken a step back and put ourselves last before other people in our lives. I hope the stories and ideas you read inspire you to take action towards your own well-being. I believe in everyone’s ability to make meaningful change in their life because they are the experts of their own lives.

About The Book

In Self-Care: Ideas and Stories for Putting Yourself First, there are five pillars of self-care that Wen introduces to you that you need in your life. He also brings up common myths that we all have about self-care and really explores what self-care means to different people. Wen interviewed everyday people from around the world with different backgrounds to understand how they view their own well-being because he believes that everyone is an expert of their own care. In addition, he brings up common self-care ideas backed by research. In the end, he challenges each reader to build their own self-care routine and gives steps that have been helpful for people he has worked with in creating behavior change.

“He believes that everyone is an expert of their own care.”

Chapter 1

When people are curious about self-care, they often turn to the internet. There are millions of articles, images, and videos detailing the best way to take care of yourself. As more people turn to the internet to share their tips, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to find the right information. Before diving deeper into what self-care is, I want to break down some of the misconceptions people have about the topic.
One of the major misconceptions about self-care is that we can trust role models and social media influencers to tell us how to take care of ourselves. Bloggers and social media influencers tell stories about their own journey by sharing the techniques and products that work for them and trying to get others to adopt those same practices. However, their lives are drastically different from yours. You could differ by life experiences, age, location, gender, socioeconomic status and thousands of other factors that make some of their techniques unrelated to you. They create an illusion that since it works for them, it must work for everybody. Their purpose is for you to be exactly like them even if you have absolutely nothing in common. The truth is that whatever works for them may not necessarily work for you. And in extreme cases, it could be harmful.

Stories

Each story tells a person’s own perspective on how they take care of themselves. Many of them were honest about what works for them. My hope is that their story resonates with you and you feel empowered to take care of yourself. You can find ideas in the book or may find your own unique way of self-care.

Wen provides quick self care tips that don't require much money or time to get started. The stories from an extremely diverse group of people made the concept of self care feel relatable to me.
