Telehealth Consent

At Financial Therapy with Wen, all therapy sessions are provided via telehealth — secure, live video (and, when appropriate, phone). This document explains what that means so you can decide whether it’s right for you.

What telehealth is. Telehealth is the delivery of mental health services using secure video or phone technology instead of meeting in the same physical room. Your sessions are conducted over a HIPAA-compliant platform, Alma.

Benefits. Greater convenience and access, no commute, and the ability to meet from a private space of your choosing.

Limitations and risks. Telehealth is not right for every situation. Technology can fail (dropped calls, poor connection), and there is a small risk that electronic communications could be accessed by unauthorized persons despite security measures. Some people find video less personal than in-person care. Telehealth is not appropriate for emergencies or crisis situations.

In a crisis. If you are experiencing a mental health emergency, having thoughts of harming yourself or others, call 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) or 911, or go to your nearest emergency room. Because we meet remotely, I cannot provide in-person emergency intervention.

Your location. By law I can only provide therapy when you are physically located in a state where I am licensed: California, Florida, Idaho, Virginia, and Arizona. You agree to confirm your physical location at the start of each session and to inform me if you travel outside these states.

Privacy on your end. Please join sessions from a private, quiet location where you won’t be overheard. Use a secure internet connection rather than public Wi-Fi when possible.

Your rights. Telehealth is voluntary. You may stop using it and, where clinically appropriate, discuss alternatives at any time. Refusing telehealth will not affect your right to care, though in-person sessions are not offered at this practice.

Consent. By booking and attending a session, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this information and consent to receiving services via telehealth.
